The Citation Fleet — Built for Volume, Demanding Precision
The Citation family spans everything from the single-pilot CJ3 to the midsize Citation X. What unites them is volume — Citations make up the largest segment of business jets globally, and the Atlanta corridor sees them in enormous numbers. FTY, RYY, and LZU are all Citation-heavy FBOs, and a well-maintained aircraft standing on the ramp sends a clear message about flight-department standards.
Citation operators tend to fly more hours per year than Gulfstream operators — the aircraft are frequently used for regional legs, short-notice trips, and multi-leg days. That operational tempo means detailing needs to happen on a tighter schedule and sometimes with less lead time. We built our mobile service around that reality.
Airframe Considerations
The Citation T-Tail
The Citation's T-tail is one of its defining features — and one of its most exposed surfaces. The horizontal stabilizer leading edge collects bug strikes at altitude, and the vertical fin accumulates oxidation patterns that mirror flight routes. Our crews clean T-tail leading edges with soft-bristle brushes and enzyme-based bug remover, avoiding acidic compounds that can strip the anodized finish on aluminum skin.
CJ Series Aluminum Structure
The CJ series (CJ1 through CJ4, including the Gen2 and Gen3 variants) uses an aluminum wing and fuselage structure with a moderately swept wing (12.5 degrees on the CJ4). The skin is more forgiving than composite but more prone to pitting and leading-edge corrosion in humid environments like Atlanta summer. We apply a protective wax with UV inhibitors after every wash.
Citation X and XLS+ Fuselage Cross-Section
The Citation X and XLS+ share a larger fuselage cross-section and higher cabin pressurization than the CJ series. The larger windows and wider cabin door seals require careful cleaning around the frame interfaces — moisture in these zones can migrate into the cabin headliner and wall panels.
Garmin G3000 Avionics Suite
The Garmin G3000 avionics suite (standard on Gen2+ CJ aircraft and the Latitude) uses glass cockpit displays with anti-reflective coatings. Never use ammonia-based glass cleaners or paper towels on these surfaces. We use aviation-approved display cleaner and microfiber only.
Fuel-Inerting System Access Panels
Fuel-inerting system access panels on the Citation are located in the lower fuselage near the wing root. These require removal during belly cleaning and re-installation by trained personnel. We follow OEM procedure for all fuel-system-adjacent work.
Interior Considerations
The Citation interior uses Cessna's cabin management system with individual seat controls, a central command panel, and LED lighting throughout Gen2+ models. The forward galley on XLS+ and Latitude models has a convention/kettle setup that requires interior disassembly for thorough cleaning.
The CJ series cabin is more compact — club-four seating, fold-out tables, enclosed lav. The headliner panels and sidewalls use fabric-faced aluminum honeycomb construction. Cleaning requires pH-neutral shampoo and low-moisture extraction to prevent delamination.
All Citation aircraft use synthetic leather (Intellitec leather substitute) as standard or optional seating. This material is more resistant to staining but can be damaged by silicone-based products. We use water-based leather alternative conditioners only.
Turn-Time Expectations
CJ series full detail: 1 crew-day. XLS+/Sovereign: 1.5 crew-days. Citation X: 2 crew-days. Maintenance detail (wash + interior sanitize): 3-4 hours single crew for any Citation model.
